The Batya and Isachar Fischer Center for Corporate Governance and Capital Market Regulation was recently inaugurated at Tel Aviv University. The Center, which is under the aegis of the University's Buchmann Faculty of Law, will be the first research institution of its kind in Israel. The Center will be dedicated to multidisciplinary research that is intended to facilitate a more transparent non-discriminatory environment for domestic and foreign investments in Israel, as well as to strengthen the connections among Israel's academic, business, financial and legal communities. The Center, named in honor of Isachar Fischer, Founder of Fischer Behar Chen Well Orion & Co, and his wife Batya, was made possible through a donation by Avi Fischer, son of Isachar and Batya Fischer, and a managing partner of FBC. David Fox, a partner at the leading US-based international law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and a preeminent US corporate attorney, was the keynote speaker at the inauguration, which was also attended by Prof. Itamar Rabinovitz, President of Tel Aviv University, and leading Israeli corporate lawyers, businessmen, and professors. Professor Chanoch Dagan, Dean of the Buchmann Law Faculty, and Professor Omri Yadlin, the first director of the Center, also addressed the inauguration ceremony and expressed their hope that the Center would answer the need for an academic institution in Israel dedicated to issues of corporate governance and market regulation that are critical for a modern, advanced and flourishing economy. In his remarks Avi Fischer stressed the need for leading individuals and institutions to contribute to the society in which they play key roles and to build solid foundations for the education and development of future leaders of the country's business and academic communities.
