On April 21st 2018, the first ever Global Legal Hackathon – the biggest legal innovation event on the planet – hosted its final round at Pier 60 in New York City.
The Global Legal Hackathon brings together the legal industry with tech and innovation across 6 continents, reaching over 40 cities in 22 countries, with the aim of advancing social and business objectives by improving the business of law and facilitating access to justice.
FBC is proud to have represented Israel in the inaugural Global Legal Hackathon final round, with the Firm’s Legal Knowledge Manager and Head of Legal Technology Implementation selected to serve as a judge on the final Global Judging Panel at the Global Legal Hackathon finals in New York, alongside world-renowned legal and technology experts.

Israel’s 1st Legal Hackathon
The inaugural Global Legal Hackathon launched in February 2018 and has since grown to become one of the largest legal innovation initiatives around the world. The worldwide hackathon kicked off with Israel’s 1st Legal Hackathon in Tel Aviv, hosted by FBC, in collaboration with Tech&Law Israel, and has signaled a new chapter in Israel’s legal tech sector.
As the country’s first legal hackathon, it has been featured on the main financial news sources in Israel. Nearly 100 people participated in the event, including contestants and mentors, who worked to create solutions to problems in the local legal industry. They had support from local technology vendors including Nevo, PwC Israel, Xioma (iManage), and Melingo, who provided technological platforms for the participants to build and develop their prototypes.
Some of the leading technology and legal experts were among hackathon judges and mentors. Israel’s Ministry of Justice joined the local hackathon as one of the main supporting organizations, with a designated public benefit panel, chaired by the Ministry’s Director General, Ms. Emi Palmor, which granted a special award to the best solution in the public sector.
It’s safe to say that Israel’s 1st Legal Hackathon was the main legal innovation event of the year in Israel, creating a one-of-a-kind opportunity to combine the tremendous experience and entrepreneurship of the local hi-tech community and the leading legal minds in the country, and developing innovative legal solutions to further improve the legal service delivery in Israel.

Global Legal Blockchain Consortium
FBC has recently joined the Global Legal Blockchain Consortium (GLBC), the non-profit group positioned to lead standards and governance for the adoption of blockchain technology in the legal industry. Other members of the consortium include key stakeholders of the legal industry – leading global law firms, technology companies and academic institutions such as Dentons, Fasken, IBM, Integra Ledger, Suffolk Law School, and others.
Joining GLBC’s innovative initiative goes hand in hand with FBC being at the forefront of innovation in the Israeli legal scene, and we are proud to be the first law firm representing Israel in the consortium.
